History of SunLED
SunLED was founded originally in Hong Kong in 1989 as the Sunscreen Company Ltd. The company’s first factory opened in mainland China in 1990 in Shenzhen. As the company quickly expanded, another office was opened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 1995, a US branch sales office and stocking warehouse was opened in Los Angeles to provide local support in North America.
The company began mass-producing surface mount LEDs in 1996, and by 2000 their production exceeded 100 million per month. By 1997, over 100 million LED lamps were being produced monthly by SunLED. Distributors who dealt with their Chinese factory were additionally assured about the company’s strict adherence to quality management when in 1999, SunLED achieved ISO 9002 certification.
By 2000, SunLED produced over 100 million surface-mount LEDs and more than 5 million LED displays monthly. The company founded an office in Shanghai in 2002 and an EMS production line in 2003. From 2005 onwards, SunLED made all its products lead-free and in line with EU ROHS standards while also becoming REACH compliant.
